Stormy Weather

In addition to it being very hot here in the City, we've also experienced a few very large thunderstorms. Now that we're on the top floor, we have been getting quite up close and personal. I have been taking these assaults pretty well compared to the trees in our local parks.

In Central Park, about 100 trees were knocked down this past storm. In Riverside, there was also a significant number of limbs and sticks that had to be cleaned up.

Luckily I just helped dad and Mr. George clean up a tree in Mr. George's back yard this past weekend while up in Binghamton. I knew just what had to be done.

My New Home?

After a lot of searching, mom and Glenn (with the help of Mr. Brad, Realtor) might have just found us a new home!

Mom says it's right on Central Park West (that we can simply cross the street and go to the park), it has a real kitchen, six windows, a "normal" bathroom, and plenty of closet space. Mom was too excited to take very many photos but here is an exterior shot.

My only question is: if we now live near Central Park, isn't that going to take a really long time to get to Riverside Park in the mornings? It's about three and a half avenues. I can't not see Laika every day. I wonder if mom has really thought about that yet??

Frankie Goes to Central Park

I met another one of mom's co-workers today. Her name is Ms. Erica and she is the proud mom of Frankie. Normally Frankie lives on Long Island with his Gran-mom, but Ms. Erica brought him into the city for some Urban Experiences.

And one of those experiences, of course, is ME! Mom and Ms. Erica thought it would be a lot of fun to get the two of us together for some puppy play time, and Central Park was the common ground.

Mom, Glenn and I walked through Central Park and met them at the 96th street entrance. I saw them from a long way off and pulled to make us move faster. I just knew Frankie and I would be friends.

We got to know each other a little bit through our normal greetings (the butt sniff) and began our hour and half trek. I wanted to show Frankie some of my favorite spots, like the Met, the Turtle Pond, the Great Lawn and Oval, as well as the Upper Central Area where the ball fields are found.

Another Expedition

Glenn, Mom and I went for another exploration of Central Park's Northern End. We even made it as far as the Harlem Meer. I wonder why we have been going there so much recently?? Well anyway, here are the photos from the trip.

Central Park Weekend!

This weekend I spent a few hours in Cenral Park, visting some of the more remote locations in the Northern part of the Park.
Mom and I first walked Glenn all the way to the east side spending some time here and there playing with different Vizslas and their owners.

After mom and I dropped Glenn off, we walked back to the West side and up to the "Pool" where there are a ton of ducks paddeling around just waiting to be pointed.

Then we hiked around, exploring the waterfall that flows under the Glen Span Arch and leads to the Woodlands. I dipped my toes in here and there but since it was after 9am by that time, I had to stay on my leash.

Mom told me that Central Park is actually man-made so when we finally returned home (two and a half hour later) I looked it up on the internet.

Here is what the Central Park Conservancy says:

The Pool is one of the most idyllic landscapes in Central Park. All the elements of Olmsted and Vaux's original design have endured here and matured. Few landscapes in the Park have the renewing spiritual quality of the Pool. The grassy banks, the willows bent over the water, the rushing sounds of a nearby waterfall, all make it a unique spot for contemplation or meditation in the midst of the bustling City.

Near the southwest section of the Pool is a naturalistic boulder grotto where a stream ripples forth and flows into the Pool. This little grotto is a perfect reminder that Central Park is entirely man-made: behind the boulder is a 48-inch pipe that brings water from the Reservoir. This conduit is, amazingly, the main source of water that keeps the Pool, the Loch, and the Harlem Meer filled and the cascades in between running.
Wow. Can you belive it?

No one would even suspect that there wasn't some sort of natural spring under there that keps the water moving.

Boy I sure have a lot to learn about The Big Apple!

Girls' Day

Today is Columbus Day, also known as Girls' Day. You might not be familiar with that holiday, but its the day that mom's company has off as a holiday celebrating the famous Italian's (Christopher Columbus) discovery of where we live.

No one else gets off (except government employees), so it's the day that mom and I just hang out together by ourselves.

Today, we started with a long walk in Riverside Park.

You might ask: How is this different from every other Monday? Well, we got to sleep in really late (7:30am!!!!) and then went into the park from 8am until 9am! Now that's the way to celebrate a holiday!

Normally we're in the park from about 6:30 to 7:30, so we got to meet a whole new crew of dogs.

In fact, I met Yogi, a sweet Vizsla from Nebraska, whose parents seemed to be from Australia... I wonder how THAT connection happened?? They're all very nice and Yogi's parents said they were thinking of moving closer to Riverside Park! That would be great because I can see that Yogi and I would be really good friends.

After all, we have the same philosophy: play first, work later!

This afternoon we have napping on the schedule, as well as snuggle time and another trip to the park.

Since it is also happens to be Mr. John's birthday (that is Mr. Lennon to most people), we might head over to "Strawberry Fields" which is located in Central Park to commemorate the occasion.

Mom and I aren't over-the-top John Lennon fans or anything, but going to Strawberry Fields on his birthday is always an interesting event. People sing his songs, write poetry and put flowers everywhere. Personally, I would wuff to find those strawberries because I bet they are tasty! Perhaps I should share some of my poetry too. A little Ode to Bait might really set the tone. What do you think?

One thing is for sure, I wuff Girls' Day!
