Pile of Pink

Friday and Saturday all it did was rain. Wind, rain, and more rain.

And even if it is a hurricane outside, I must go out. I'm like the postman in that way. As Greek historian Herodotus said: Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

My appointed rounds just happened to be more of a physical necessity but a courageous feat in the pitch black, driving rain none-the-less.

So, mom and I go out, no matter what and we or, rather, I am rewarded with a rub-down and swaddling in the pinkest of pink towels, as illustrated in the following images...

Poem

Here's a little poem I came up with, and I think it could someday be turned into a song...

My name is Brisztow Jones.
I like to gnaw on bones.
I run around,
I sniff the ground.
My name is Brisztow Jones!

My name is Brisztow Jones.
I like to run and roam,
In the park,
or in the dark,
But never far from home.

My name is Brisztow Jones.
I do not have a phone
I like play
most everyday
and then Mom takes me home.

Can it get any better than that??

Well, of course it can! My sister, Rozie, is a newly anointed huntress, earning her Junior Hunter title last weekend!

Whoop! Whoop!

Sunday Brunch

Yesterday was mom's birthday and I had a few suprise visitors! Muti, Papa-dino, and Christine all came to see me! I was so excited.

Mom and Glenn met them for brunch at Isabella's near the Museum of Natural History. Then they came back to the apartment to see me. We all went for a walk and I had some brunch, too.

There was a street fair on Broadway where I was able to scoop up the snacks people had dropped on the street.

Yum!

Mom was grossed out, of course, but I thought it was all delicious.

Still waiting...

I don't know where Ms. Deb is.... I feel so lost without her updates! I thought she'd be able to give me a few about what happened at the national show but it looks like she is MIA. I am hoping that means good news!

I know Owe'n was competing along with Miss Hannah Banana. But not sure about anyone else.

sigh...

10:56am

In other news...

At precisely 10:56am on Sunday, October 22, Mom will turn 31.

Ugh. She is getting old, huh?

But I still wuff her!

Waiting...

I know everyone is on pins and needles waiting for the results of the puppy sweepstakes class at the National Vizsla Specialty Show, but I haven't heard from Ms. Deb yet. Hopefully, I will soon! Let's hope for the best!

10.18.2006

Best Wishes!

For the next few days, the National Vizsla Specialty Show is being held in Dover Delaware, and several of the pups I know are competing. Let's give a shout-out and best wishes to all of them!

5th Annual: My Dog Wuffs Central Park Country Fair

The day dawned cool and clear -- a perfect fall day in New York City -- and mom and I were ready. After a hearty breakfast of my Evo and Wellness combo, and a swift walk in the park, mom and I headed down to Central Park, to the site of the 5th Annual: My Dog Wuffs Central Park Country Fair.

I was entered in the "walk with Me" competition so the whole way there (30+ blocks) mom and I practiced. We walked, and I stayed right by her side... well unless there was a bird or leaf or anything shiny for me to go after...

Once we got there we were overwhelmed by the number of dogs and people. Regardless that there are about one million pups in the city, mom and I figured there wouldn't be quite so many great dogs. Big, little, cute, ugly. They were all there and in full force.

I was intimidated, but we pressed on.

We finally found the registration table for the competition (after asking at five other tables!), paid our money and got our entry ticket. Woo hoo! I was registered for the 1:00 class, so mom and I hung out and sized up the rest of the competition.

The task was to enter the ring, stop at the judges table, show them how cute I am, walk in a Figure "8," circle the ring once and exit.

Simple enough, right?

Well, mom and I were a little nervous so once the competition started, and it was our turn, we concentrated extra hard and walked that Figure "8" like our lives depended on it.

I was rock solid.

And it showed. I won 2nd place in the class! That meant the plan was in motion. I was on my way to the "Best in Park" title.

We had to come back for the final competition at 3:15, which left mom and I an hour and half to kill, so we decided to explore. We met lots of dogs, including a number of Vizslas!

I want to give a special shout-out to Echo, a sweet 15 month-old girl who was bred by Ms. Elise in New Jersey. She was so nice to me, and even gave me a pep talk!

Mom allowed me to sample a couple Nutro treats and I had a few large drinks of water, so I was good to go. Once the competition started, it dawned on me that I was going to have a tough time winning the title because the competition was to determine the most obedient dog in the park.

The three celebrity judges, including Howard Stern's girlfriend Beth Ostrosky and the New York Post's Cindy Adams, asked us to approach them, sit and do some tricks.

Uh oh.

Mom and I don't do tricks, and I am not even allowed to sit (I have magnets in my butt in the show ring so Ms. Deb doesn't want to encourage that too much)! Oh well, mom and I just tried to do our best.

In the end, a sweet Dachshund named Eddie and an Australian Shepherd won joint "Best in Park" titles. I was happy for them, especially since I got a goodie-bag of my own!

It's a bummer that I won't have an 8pp fashion spread in New York Dog magazine, but I since I already made the cover of W and Harper's Bazzar, anything less is just not the same.

There is always next year!

Master Plan

I have a master plan.

This Saturday, Mom and I shall attend the Fifth Annual My Dog Wuffs Central Park Country Fair, enter the "Walk With Me" competition and try to earn the "Best in Park" title.

This is a HUGE award and honor, and will show that I know how to respectfully walk along side mom and interact in the urban environment as all great Urban Mutts do.

The "Best in Park" title winner also receives an 8 page spread in New York Dog magazine along with "other fabulous prizes." Wow.... I am totally psyched.

Tonight, mom and I will really need to practice on our evening walk -- we only have 22 hours until the main event!

Squirrel Addict

Vizslas are born to point feather and fur. That means we chase "upland game birds" and squirrels (amongst other furry critters). The squirrel part is something I am particularly fond of. There is nothing better than chasing a lil' guy up into a tree and just waiting until he comes down... It hasn't happened yet, but I am patient.

Mom never knew where my squirrel obsession came from until I pointed out that my DAD (Pops Priority) is squirrel obsessed, too!

I was surfing on the web the other day when I came across the announcement that I am now a big sister to my new half-siblings on my father's side. Whew!

Boy do I have a large family!

It turns out that Pops Priority has been running around with a Miss Hannah (who is not MY Hannah Banana, but another Hanana Banana), and they now have a family of six pups to take care of.

I also learned that he is a squirrel babysitter. I don't know all the details, but I am hoping Ms. Jenna will tell me about that some more.

I also found out that he likes to play on the beach -- just like me!

I wuff the beach!

Don't you?

A Funny Lookin' Pumpkin

Caroline sure makes one funny lookin' pumpkin!

She went to the pumpkin patch this past weekend with Ms. Laura, Mr. Kevin and Matthew. I bet they had a great time!

Hmmmm.... I wonder when my mom is taking ME to pick out my pumpkin???

Brigantine Beach Babes

Jade and I are cutting up the beach! Zoom!

In the Clear

Just in case you were on pins and needles, I am A-OK! No more upset tummy. Mom and I are still going to visit the vet tomorrow for my annual check up, but that should be smooth sailing. Whew!

10.10.2006

Rumble in the Belly

This morning I wasn't feeling too well. I woke up mom when I started to retch and threw-up in my crate. I am not a happy pup.

Mom has made an appointment with a new vet -- Dr. Rosenthal at Westside Veterinary Center. Mom hopes she will be nice to me and very good. I do too!

I need to have any annual exam done regardless (and get my shots!!), but if I am not doing better this evening we'll go in to the emergency clinic there. I bet I'll be just fine, though!

Girls' Day

Today is Columbus Day, also known as Girls' Day. You might not be familiar with that holiday, but its the day that mom's company has off as a holiday celebrating the famous Italian's (Christopher Columbus) discovery of where we live.

No one else gets off (except government employees), so it's the day that mom and I just hang out together by ourselves.

Today, we started with a long walk in Riverside Park.

You might ask: How is this different from every other Monday? Well, we got to sleep in really late (7:30am!!!!) and then went into the park from 8am until 9am! Now that's the way to celebrate a holiday!

Normally we're in the park from about 6:30 to 7:30, so we got to meet a whole new crew of dogs.

In fact, I met Yogi, a sweet Vizsla from Nebraska, whose parents seemed to be from Australia... I wonder how THAT connection happened?? They're all very nice and Yogi's parents said they were thinking of moving closer to Riverside Park! That would be great because I can see that Yogi and I would be really good friends.

After all, we have the same philosophy: play first, work later!

This afternoon we have napping on the schedule, as well as snuggle time and another trip to the park.

Since it is also happens to be Mr. John's birthday (that is Mr. Lennon to most people), we might head over to "Strawberry Fields" which is located in Central Park to commemorate the occasion.

Mom and I aren't over-the-top John Lennon fans or anything, but going to Strawberry Fields on his birthday is always an interesting event. People sing his songs, write poetry and put flowers everywhere. Personally, I would wuff to find those strawberries because I bet they are tasty! Perhaps I should share some of my poetry too. A little Ode to Bait might really set the tone. What do you think?

One thing is for sure, I wuff Girls' Day!

Molar Munch

One more thing I forgot to mention about my visit with Jade...

She also taught me how to easily destroy all plush toys by using my mollars, and really biting down hard on the seams and "weak spots" of the toy. I plan on using the Molar Munch technique the next time mom gives me a furry friend to play with!

Beach Brigade

Today, Jade and I went for a long walk on Brigantine Beach with the Reaps including Jade's Grandpa and Grandma, and mom! The weather was amazing (not like the moody turbulence of last year) and so we got to go in the water, chase shells that Mr. Jason threw, point at birds, and, of course, dig in the sand. Jade is so good at I just stood behind her and watched.

I wuffed every minute of it!

10.07.2006

Wrestle Mania!

Woah! Jade and I just had a terrific day of doggie antics!

We wrestled and tugged and barked and growled at each other since Mom, Glenn and I arrived at the Reaps today. I was so excited to see Jade, Ms. Stacey and Mr. Jason that I ran around like a whirling dervish.

Jade wasn't so sure she wanted to have such a wild guest, but then she got into the swing of things, too!

Jade even taught me something new... How to go through the doggie door! A couple months ago, Ms. Stacey and Mr. Jason finally finished their "Florida Room", including a special, custom screen doggie door. It allows the screen to be closed, and at the same time Jade and I to go in and out. Well, we did that all weekend. Outside, inside. Outside, inside. It made mom dizzy! But I wuffed the screen doggie door. Can't mom put one in the apartment door? That way I could go to the park whenever I wanted to!

10.06.2006

Not A Gamble

This weekend mom, Glenn and I are going to visit Jade, Ms. Stacey and Mr. Jason! Woo hoo! I wuff the Reaps. Especially since they live near Atlantic City. No, we're not going to the casinos; we're going to the Brigantine Beach for a long run!

I wuff splashing in the waves, chasing seagulls and digging in the sand with Jade. She has taught me everything I know about diggin'.

The best type of soil, my angle of entry, the best digging weather... you know, that sort of thing.

Jade is older (a full five years!) and thus a pup who can give me the right kind of pointers.

Mornings in Riverside

Here is my photo montage of my early morning walk in Riverside Park.

I wuff mornings.

What to Wear?

Since it's October, the leaves are turning colors, the air is getting crisp, mom is baking apple pies and it's time to figure out what I am going to be for Halloween.

Mom has put together a little fashion show of dog Halloween costumes, so let's take a look and see what I should wear. Please feel free to email me your preference and what you think would look best on me!

A) The Three-Headed Dog from the Harry Potter Collection

B) A Horror Movie Victim

C) Hot Diggity Dogs!

D) Orb Weaver

E) What Was I Thinking???

Houston, we have a problem.

Mom is not keeping up her end of the bargain. I am the writer, she is the photographer (remember I don't have thumbs people!). But since the camera is "broken" she isn't supplying me with illustrations for my posts. Doesn't she understand that my fans really only like looking at the photos?

Oh boy. She is just not living up to my expectations.

So in the meantime, I am going to have to supply you with some eye candy: shots of my sweepstakes wins!

At Sommerset...

And at Westchester...
