Ending the Staycation

To wrap up our Memorial Day Staycation, Mom packed up the picnic basket and we headed to Central Park for a sunset dinner.



Oh, you do know what a Staycation is, right?



It's when you have a vacation, but you don't ever actually leave your house. Instead of sunning on the beach or going camping, mom and Glenn decided staying in the Big Apple and relaxing would be vacation enough. So we have been on a Staycation for the past three days.







Woo hoo.

I, for one, am VERY relaxed.











And the picnic was a delicious way to end the celebration.

Waffle Iron Fiasco

This morning, Mom finally decided to take out Great Grandma Spinney's waffle iron and make the best tasting waffles EVER!!

Unfortunately, things didn't turn out as expected and the waffle stuck to the iron.

She couldn't even get the machine open! I think she must have forgotten to grease the top plate, and only greased the bottom. Silly mom!

This fiasco was just fine by me though, as I generally get to sample her mistakes. Poor Glenn; He went hungry.

Memorial Day Weekend - Food, Food and more Food

Most people celebrate Memorial Day with Barbecue and lots of family time together.

Us Urban dwellers aren't that different, except we don't have backyard, deck or grill. So, instead, we visit people who do.


Yesterday, we BBQ'd at the Potter's in Forest Hills, Queens. How delightful.

Mom make milk chocolate chip cookies, and a salad, and Jacob and Sok made the steak, grilled veggies and rice pilaf. It was a feast fit for a King!



Little Soya, doesn't eat grown-up food yet so she and I made ourselves at home while the grown-ups ate the afternoon feast.

Blog-mania

It is official. I think everyone has caught the bloggin' bug. When I first started this urban monologue a few years ago not many people had even heard of a web log, but now it seems like they are popping up everywhere!

My sister Rozie, who just made me an aunt again, has a blog about her little legal eagles; and now mama siren just had a little and has established a blog JUST TODAY: the Gladiators.

I wonder if they know about the blog-world's rules of posting? Photos=good. Over use of exclamation marks=bad. And spell check, spell check, spell check. Sometimes I don't follow these rules, but I guess when you have been at this as long as I have you can begin to break the rules a bit. Don't you think?

Party in the Park, Followed by Picnic in the Park!

As a follow up from our morning alfresco adventure, we were joined by Maureen and Denis for a Picnic in the Park in honor of Mother's Day. For mom, I bought her some roses, and did my best to be good.

The seven of us had an amazing spread and were quit full by the time lunch was over. Yummy!

From Birth Day to Birthday!

Today I am 3.

And even though it is pouring rain, we already got our celebrating in -- yesterday!

We had our Third Annual Party In The Park with Dunk's Coffee and Munchkins to celebrate my special day.


Lots of people thought it was also for Mom's day but NOPE it was all for ME.

Mom did something new for us this year. Instead of simply placing the box of donuts on the bench within easy reach. She made a game out of it by making a Munchkin Piñata. Laika had a really good time trying to knock down the bag that had been suspended from the cherry tree.

I also had to very special guests come for my birthday celebration -- Grandpa George and Grandma Susan. I felt very cool to have so many people in attendance.
