Timber!
Question of the day: If a mom falls in the park, does anyone hear her?
This morning, mom and I were having a great time in the park, playing with Laika, Rupert, Dougan, Rosie, Noah, Bones, and a new little puppy whose name I can't recall right now. Since I am going to the Washington D.C. suburbs for my hunting test this weekend and then all the way down to North Carolina for a week of dog shows with Ms. Stern and Ms. Peggy, I really wanted to get this face time in with my park friends. We were running and roughhousing, chasing tennis balls, playing keep away, and generally making quite a rambunctious pile of pooches. I was so busy with all the goings-on that I didn't even "perform" when mom asked me to. I had too much to get into to worry about going "do"!
When it was time to leave, Laika's mom put her on the leash, but Laika wasn't done playing. She tried to run around mom to get away. Mom was already surrounded by me and my other friends (I like to play between her legs since it is more of a challenge to everyone else who wants to “get me”), so when she got caught in Laika's leash it was inevitable that she was going to go down like a tall Redwood tree in a forest of Dogwoods.
Timber! She swayed left. She swayed right. And then crashed to the ground.
Mom says it was like slow motion. But it looked pretty fast to me! The only problem was that the only thing to break mom's fall was Laika herself! Yelp!
Laika was squished like a pancake and got up limping. Mom tried to gingerly untangle herself from all the dogs and leashes. Right away I knew I was needed, so I began jumping on top of her to show my support and provide comfort. Mom said "Brisztow! You aren't helping! Please get OFF!" I didn't listen, though, since I knew she was in a dazed state and didn't know what she was saying. It's a good thing I was there! Brisztow Jones to the rescue!
Ms. Jane took a peek at Laika's leg and deemed it "Ok". She's a veterinary surgeon so Mom felt confident nothing too bad had happened. We said our good-byes and Laika and Ms. Jane limped home. Mom and I headed in the opposite direction to work on the "Go Do" thing. What an exciting morning!
