Post: Surgery

I'm finally home after what has been a long day.

Mom, Glenn and I came home from our fun in the snow and we began our morning routine: Mom opens the door, removes my leash and collar, and gets started on my breakfast.

Or at least that's how things normally go.

This morning, mom must has forgotten about me; she never made me breakfast! I was even standing by the door to my food bin the entire time she was getting ready, and nothin'. All I got was some lousy peanut butter with my medicine inside.

Eventually both mom and Glenn were ready from work, but instead of leaving me behind I got to walk with them. Instead of getting to spend the day with them at work, I was taken to the Vet.

Mom signed me in, and I was taken upstairs by one of the hospital staff. I'm beginning to feel that this place is my home away from home because I seem to keep coming back!

I was put into a crate for a while until I saw a familiar face.

It was Ms. Jane! She came to visit me! How nice.

It wasn't until she began doing some pre-op prep that I realized this wasn't a social call after all. The tech helped her get me ready and I began to feel really sleepy.

When I woke up I was back in my cage and my mouth felt all funny. But I could tell that tooth that had been hurting me was gone, so that was really pleasant. I also received a shot of morphine derived Bupinex, and that made me feel great too.

Around six o'clock the nurse received a call that it was time for me to go home. I was so excited (I knew it just had to be mom coming to get me) that I didn't wait for her to open the gate across the door of the dog area. I sailed right over it in one leap. Boy did that surprise the nurse! She said I looked like a Thoroughbred in an Olympic Stadium competition. I hope I had a good bascule.

When I was half-way down the stairs, I saw mom and the nurse couldn't keep me from her. I literally lept into her arms. Good thing she knew I might do that and had already put her purse and work bag on the ground.

Glenn was there too and I was so happy that we were all together again. We high-tailed it out of there. On the way home we walked up through Riverside Park so that I could get "back to nature" and would be able to relax for the rest of the evening.

And so that's what I've been doing since I got home: practicing my "couch potato" imitation.
